Art from Junk Workshop

The Office of Dean Infrastructure and Design and Innovation Centre jointly organized an ‘Art from Junk workshop recently. The workshop was mentored by Mr Gopal Namjoshi an acclaimed Public Art Installation Artist with an experience of more than 25 years.

Led by the artist’s infectious enthusiasm, the team set about ideating and conceptualising the installations. The students were divided into two teams- Wood and Metal. Discarded metal, pipes, meters, wires, mother boards, glassware along with old furniture and cycles were collected from all departments and deposited in front of Textile department- the selected site for the public artworks. The Wood Team picked up a large fallen tree stump and branches. The teams set about chiseling, welding, casting, cutting, sawing and binding.

The workshop was co-ordinated by Prof Deepti Gupta Associate Dean (Infra) and Prof PVM Rao Co-ordinator Design and Innovation Centre.
