Through Memorandum of Understanding between Mauritius Research Council (MRC) of Republic of Mauritius and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD), India have intended to establish principles of cooperation with respect to the development and implementation on IIT-like institution in Mauritius. The institute is officially named as “International Institute of Technology Research Academy, Mauritius” which is initially located at Bel Air, Mauritius and later will move to its main campus in 2015 . Accordingly, as per MOU, it is agreed upon that IIT Delhi shall:
- provide the required academic leadership necessary for setting up the IITRA Mauritius with similar repute as that of IIT Delhi;
- help to set up the academic programs at IITRA based on the same academic norms as well as requirements as at IIT Delhi;
- award Ph.D and MS(Research) degrees on successful completion of academic programmes by all students registered with IIT Delhi at least till 2018 and provide academic guidance for IITRA becoming an autonomous and award granting body within the framework of Mauritius higher educational system.
