IIT Delhi Celebrated the International Year of Periodic Table (IYPT) 2019

The year 2019 is the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements and has therefore been proclaimed the "International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019). The year 1869 is considered as the year of discovery of the Periodic Table developed by Russian Scientist Dmitri Mendeleev. To celebrate the IYPT, IIT Delhi and RSC (London) jointly organized a Public Lecture on the topic "Why is Mendeleev so Important to Chemistry?" by Prof. Swaminathan Sivaram, Padma Shri and former Director of NCL (Pune) on 30th August 2019. Prof. Sivaram nicely explained the origin and evolution of

Periodic Table and provided deep insight into how Mendeleev came up with the idea of arranging the chemical elements using their physiochemical properties. The lecture was attended by about 300 people, including students and teachers from nearby schools.
