IIT Delhi students, faculty, staff participate in Fit India Movement

The Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi launched the Fit India Movement at a ceremony in New Delhi on 29th August 2019.

The country celebrates August 29th as the National Sports Day, to mark the birthday of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.

Urging the people of the country to make fitness their life style, the Prime Minister said that ‘Fit India Movement’ should become a national goal and its aspiration.

In an effort to inspire the nation, the Prime Minister said that Fit India Movement may have been started by the government but it is the people who have to lead it and make it a success.

At IIT Delhi, students, staff and faculty members viewed the live telecast of launching ceremony of ‘FIT India Movement’ at the Lecture Hall Complex and hostels and took the fitness pledge.

To mark the occasion, number of activities took place on the campus from early morning to late evening.

In morning, a fitness camp was organised in which a large number of students participated.

In evening, the sports department organised friendly matches of hockey, football, basketball, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, squash, swimming, athletics etc between the students.
