Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is a professional organization for mobility engineering professionals in aerospace, automotive and the commercial vehicle industries. The Society is a standards development organization for the engineering of powered vehicles of all kinds, including cars, trucks, boats, aircraft and others.

IITD at FSAE

Society of Automobile Engineers (SAE) holds a student formula car competition named Formula-SAE, in which students are given some restrictions on car engine and frame to challenge the creativity and imagination of students. It is a prestigious event being held in five continents with seven venue countries and more than 300 universities from around the world taking part in this competition. These student designed cars compete with each other in the areas of fuel economy, endurance, acceleration and cost analysis. This competition has rich history of 22 years of universities participating with unique revolutionary cars achieving remarkable results while following the rules and regulations of the competition.

A team of 9 members from the Deptt of Mechanical Engg, IIT Delhi, represented IIT at Formula-SAE (West) 2007 in California Speedway, Fontana, California, USA. This was the FIRST TIME any Indian Team participated in this competition. The IIT Delhi team earnt special recognition for innovation in the making of this car. After successfully competing in FSAE West this year, we feel confident to upgrade to an even more advanced vehicle and participate in Formula Student 2008.
